“Role of Data Analytics and Visualization in Real World Evidence (RWE) based Studies”
Date: 28th OCT 2017
“Real World Evidence (RWE) is the gaining of insights from data derived from real world medical settings such as electronic health records, health insurance claims and other datasets (ex: from registry studies) beyond the scope of traditional clinical trials. Analytics performed on such data (Real World Data – RWD) is crucial to determine the safety, efficacy and cost-benefit of drugs in the real world. This data is usually low quality and unstructured. Hence, to provide visualizations, wrangling these kind of datasets is particularly challenging. Pharmaceutical companies, Payers and Health authorities use RWE to achieve patient centricity in their decisions. The way forward is to use technology to establish common standards (akin to CDISC for example) and link data/datasets to measure the impact of RWE for a view of the health ecosystem.
The Challenge for today’s Data Managers is to make sense of the seemingly disparate data which could be readily available. Alternatively, they could recommend methods for data collection that could augment for data analytics. The bottom line is patient centricity.”
